How to update a date, price or name in an old recording
Recordings outlive the facts in them. A course still mentions last year's price, a product demo uses the old feature name, an evergreen episode announces an event that moved. Re-recording a whole lesson for one sentence rarely makes sense, and a new take recorded months later won't sound like the rest. Here is how to update only what went out of date.

Step 1: List every sentence that needs to change
Before touching any audio, go through your scripts or transcripts and write down each outdated sentence and its new wording. Typical candidates:
- Prices and offers (“for just $49”)
- Dates and schedules (“next Wednesday at eight”, “in 2025”)
- Names of products, features, menus and buttons that were renamed
- Links and contact details spoken aloud
Write the new sentences so they are about as long as the old ones. This keeps the timing of slides, animations and music in place.
Step 2: Choose how to patch each sentence
- Re-record and punch in if you still have the same mic and room and can match your old delivery. Read the sentence before it too, and keep only the part you need.
- Regenerate in your own voice if the setup has changed, your voice sounds different now, or there are many sentences to fix. The voice is made from that recording itself, so it matches how you sounded back then.
- Add an update note (on screen or in the description) when the change is minor and doesn't affect what people do.
Step 3: Regenerate the sentences with Respeak
- Upload the lesson's audio. Recordings can be up to 10 minutes on the free trial and 30 minutes after buying any pack. For longer lessons, export just the section that needs to change.
- Find the sentence in the transcript and type the new wording, for example “Wednesday at eight” → “Friday at nine”.
- Generate, listen and compare. You get 3 free generations per sentence. The new sentence's tone and room sound are matched to the surrounding audio.
- Replace (1 credit per sentence) and export as WAV or MP3. You can also bring the whole export to −16 LUFS, a common loudness level for spoken audio.

Step 4: Put the audio back into the video
If the lesson is a video, Respeak edits the audio track:
- Export the audio from your video editor (Premiere, Final Cut, DaVinci Resolve, CapCut, Camtasia…), fix it, and import the new audio.
- Line it up with the old track at the start, then mute or remove the old track.
- Check the edited sentences against the picture. A new sentence can be slightly longer or shorter than the old one.
This works well for voice-over: slides, screen recordings, b-roll. If your face is on camera while you say the sentence, the new words won't match your lips. Cut away to a slide or b-roll for that sentence, or re-record it on camera.
Step 5: Keep a change log
Note which lessons and sentences you changed and when. Next time prices or names change, you will know exactly where they are mentioned, and you can tell your students what was updated.
FAQ
Can I update the audio of a video lesson?
Yes, if the voice is a voice-over (slides, screen recording, b-roll). Export the audio track from your video editor, fix the sentences, and put the new audio back. If your face is on camera while you speak, a changed sentence will not match your lips.
How long can the recording be?
Up to 10 minutes on the free trial and 30 minutes (30 MB) after buying any credit pack. For longer lessons, export only the part that needs to change and put it back in your editor.
Does the new sentence keep my voice from back then?
Yes. The voice is made from that recording itself, so it matches how you sounded in it, not how you sound today.
Is it only for my own voice?
Yes. Respeak only regenerates your own voice, and you confirm this before generating. Exported files that contain generated speech are labelled as AI-generated.
